You are invited! Come to Rocky Knoll Golf Course on September 14 for a fun day of golf and a chance to support a great mission!
The Maine Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MeANA) is organizing “Swing for Success” an 18-hole golf fundraiser, to help build the ground-breaking Recovery Support Fund at Healthy Acadia. The objective of the Downeast Recovery Support Fund is to build support for those in recovery from opioid and other substances through a highly defined and monitored mini-grant process that assists with access to emergency housing, transportation, and basic needs such as clothes, shoes, and food. The fund will be accessible to Hancock and Washington county community members seeking recovery.
Swing for Success will take place at Rocky Knoll Golf Course in Orrington on Saturday, September 14, 2019. Tee time is at 10 A.M.,on site registration is at 9 A.M. A luncheon barbecue is included, along with snacks , great prizes and cash awards. 100% of all sponsorship money raised will go directly to the Downeast Recovery Support Fund.
Although improved, Maine continues to suffer from opioid and other drug-related overdoses, and the opioid epidemic remains a critical health crisis. Every drug-related death is preventable with effective intervention and treatment. But the real battle is to prevent opioid and other drug-related relapses. We can do our part by supporting recovery infrastructure and the resources needed to curb this epidemic in Maine. The Downeast Recovery Support Fund is such a solution. This model is cited as a best practice for sustainable recovery by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Healthy Acadia, home of the Recovery Support Fund, is a non-profit community health organization working to address local health priorities including substance prevention and recovery, through collaborative efforts including Downeast Project HOPE ( Heroin, Opioid, Prevention Effort), Recovery Coaching programming, and a wide array of substance misuse prevention programming.
To learn more about Healthy Acadia and their efforts to remove barriers and assist those seeking recovery go to their website HealthyAcadia.org.
If unable to attend, please consider making a contribution. It will help provide funding for a ground breaking initiative to bridge the gap between treatment and sustainable recovery. This will serve as a model for our state and hopefully encourage other community and state agencies to form similar initiatives.
We encourage you to come and participate in this most worthy cause and get a chance to meet some of the amazing people who volunteer their services as angels and recovery coaches for those seeking recovery from Substance Use Disorders.
The following video was made by a former patient from Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. He was so delighted that he had an opioid free anesthetic for a potentially painful orthopedic surgery that he made this video! This is a great example of the wonderful contributions Maine anesthetists can make to help curb this insidious epidemic in our state. Kudos to Laura Schneider-Look, CRNA, MS, Chief Nurse Anesthetist.
